Art in the Forest
a forest inspired art exhibit
Everyone is welcome to view the Manitoba Forestry Association first ever art exhibit at Sandilands Forest Discovery Centre during the the 2012 season.
The art exhibit features six unique art pieces created by local area artists at our one-day art and education event which was held on August 20, 2011 at the Sandilands Forestry Discovery Centre in Hadashville, Manitoba.
Over 200 participants from from the Hadashville area, Pinawa, the Whiteshell area and Winnipeg took part in the August 20th event. They enjoyed hands-on art workshops and guided nature hikes while having the opportunity to engage with six professional artists who live in forest communities themselves. These artists—painter Vivian Thomson, photographer Anita Drabyk, potter Irene Friesen, potter Jenefer Cavers, fibre artist Maureen Carefoot and sculptor Walter Keller. Each developed an original piece of art inspired by and celebrating the forest. It is their work that is featured in the Art in the Forest Exhibit.
Forest full of sounds
A huge grey wolf howl deeply
Silence spreads around
Matthew, Grade 8, Pinawa Secondary School
The forest awakens
The sun’s light shimmers silently
Through the forest’s leaves
Jason, Grade 8, Pinawa Secondary School
The tall maple tree
Its sweet syrup on my tongue
It’s the forest’s gift
Emilie, Grade 8, Pinawa Secondary School
