Seedling Sales
The Manitoba Forestry Association (MFA) offers a "Seedling Sales" program to landowners and the general public interested in planting coniferous species.
Seedlings may be purchased and planted for numerous purposes including shelter, wildlife enhancement, aesthetic values, landscaping or for Christmas trees. Individuals also purchase our seedlings to give to guests at weddings, graduations, baptisms and anniversaries.
The Seedlings and Tree Sales Program has been in existence since 2000 and is a fundraiser for the MFA. The funds generated through sales are used specifically for education programming such as:
• "Manitoba Envirothon", an environmental competition for high school students
• Programming at the Sandilands Forest Discovery Centre
• Project Learning Tree (PLT) and Forest Ed workshops for teachers
Seedlings are grown at the Pineland Forest Nursery in Hadashville, Manitoba. For more information on how the seedlings are grown, please visit the Pineland website at www.pinelandforestnursery.com.
Potted Coniferous and Deciduous Stock
The Manitoba Forestry Association also has select large caliper stock trees in 1, 2, 3 and 5 gallon pots which allow for a quicker and more dynamic impact on landscaping needs. Large caliper stock suits a wide variety of needs for those wishing for a more established tree.
Again, proceeds from these items go towards our educational programming for both students and landowners.
The 2012 distribution dates at Sandilands Forest Discovery Centre are May 11 and 12. Alternate arrangements can be made for shipping seedlings, or picking up seedlings at our Winnipeg office. A $12.60 handling fee applies and shipping costs are the responsibility of the purchaser. Potted stock is only available for pick up at SFDC, and will not be shipped or made available for pick up at our Winnipeg office.
